Double Bass Preamp selection

Hi guys,

I have K&K Bass Max (just ordered a Rev Solo II), and a ATM350 mic by Audio Technica.

When I used the mic alone, I was getting too much leakage from the drums which are quite close to me, so i can't really go mic only where I play. I decided to mix the piezo with the mic.

I have been looking at preamps for like a month now and still can't decide what to get. The most suitable ones I found were the: Headway EDB-1 and D-Tar Solstice.

Which one do you guys suggest?

I have a Headway EDB-1 and it works great with the Revolution Solo pickup. You will only have one channel of EQ with the Headway, since it mixes the two channels together at that point. There are individual volume controls on each channel and a master volume after the preamp section. If you need a dual channel blender then the D-Tar offers that option.

Thanks for the reply. I don't think I'll need 2 EQ channels, coz I really liked the sound of the ATM350 mic alone.

Have you ever tried the headway with a mic? Anyway, I think I'm leaning towards the headway right now, since its cheaper, more compact and runs on batteries which is a huge plus!

Happy Headway user here.. It's an awesome little box for (in my case) blending an Audix D4 w/ a pickup (Planet Wing). If you feel you won't need two EQ channels, I'd recommend the Headway, for sure.

I use the headway with a rev 2 and a dpa 4099b into a k12 and love it the only prob I have is the gain for channel 1 is super high the guitarist I play with uses the dtar and that's great also but I like the headway better so far and it's a lot smaller and battery powered and has phantom
