Double Bass Preamp suggestions for my double bass

Oh yeah! I´ve just seen that the Headway EDB-2 is available at amazon and thomann.de! ;-) Overall, this looks like the best package, with its two channels, the notch filter, and a mute switch.

For it's form factor and feature set it's
an exceptional value. It carries a 1 year warranty. The Phantom Power is 18v which will work with some condensers but not others.

Try cleaning all the 1/4" jacks with Deoxit 5. Switch out the 9 volt battery and try the wall wart.

Thanks Ric . I think this unit is for acoustic guitar only. I found the manual for the bass version. It's an identical box with different names for some of the parameters and it doesn't have BASS written on it. It worked fine on the acoustic bass guitar so the unit is working fine. I guess the bass version has more gain?
To bad , it seems like a nice preamp. I'll look around for the bass version.

i have a custom pre-amp from broughton audio and an Fdeck pre which i love.

then one night, i forgot both!

i had to plug straight into my AI Ten2 - the preamps on the amp did everything i needed.

i still have both units though i rarely use them - i have enough moving parts to deal with at a gig.

like said above, maybe the right amp can cover your needs without dropping another $200 and have more parts to deal with.

Sometimes simpler is better. The AI heads are voiced well for most upright pickups. If I were using the Headway, I would bypass the preamp in the head. But again, not sure you gain too much over the pre in the Acoustic Image head.

I have used the Fishman V.1 with the Realist on my Eminence, and been very happy with the tone produced. It also acts as a matching transformer to lower the high impedance of the transducer, so a regular low impedance amp could be used.

I have a WT-300A and a WT-550. I use the WT-550 for many electric gigs, and the 300 for recording at home. While I really liked my double bass directly into the WT-300A (with the gain at around 2 o'clock and the compressor already kicking in), I had to fully crank up the gain on the 550. And the double bass sound with neutral EQ is better with the 300 as well. I actually thought, these both amps had a quite similar pre amp. Maybe I'll give the 300 a try on a rehearsal or a gig. Man, that's really a beautiful sounding amp.

I also Always thought they have identical pre-amps. Last week I used the DI of the WT300 in a recording. (shadow nanoflex pickup straight in the WT and to the board) The sound engineer said it should be good enough. Yesterday I heard the results in a mastering session and it actually sounded pretty good to me. (after I convinced him to tone down on the sub-bass and compression.

The EQ sections are different. The Pro Platinum version for guitar lacks separate Low and High Midrange controls and adds a Brilliance control above the Treble.

So, I got myself the EDB-2. It arrived today, and after first tests, I have to say, that I absolutely love it! And it's exactly what I've been looking for!

The Sans amp acoustic di works well for what you need. Cheap too.

I've been using the LR Baggs para-coustic DI with my DB forever. It's a very good preamp for just about any ultra high impedance pickup as long as you're not looking for very complicated EQ shelving.

It's awesome for my bass, works great for guitar and is built like a tank. You don't even need a battery as long as you can shoot phantom down the line.

Though I had long been a Fishman Platinum Bass DI fan, I am more into my LR Baggs para-coustic DI for my DB these days. Clean, open sounding and seems like it has more gain.
