Double Bass Preamps comparison

Can anybody make a comparison between the Radial tonebone pz-pre and the Headway EDB-1 preamps?
I'm aware that the Radial is only one channel and the EDB is a blender, I'm asking about the sound and functionality as a pickup preamp.

The Headway only had one EQ channel as well. It has a volume for each channel but not two sets of tone controls. Shwashwa here on TB has had both units and prefers the Pz Pre. You might want to pm him.

Ric, thanks for your reply! I actually own the PZ pre. I also own the Fdeck unit, which works fantastic with my Markbass Mini CMD 121P. Interestingly, my Minimark combo likes the PZ pre better, as the PZ pre sounds somehow brighter and less bassy, which is good with Minimark, but not with the CMD...

I have and use both. I think the Headway makes piezo pickups sound better than the PZ-pre. The Headway EQ section is more 'musical' sounding. The PZ is great for switching between two channels and using a boost/effect loop and mute feature. The DI's are about the same on both units.

I have two pickups on my bass (an Underwood and a Full Circle), and I use either depending on the acoustics of where I'll play. Sometimes I would like to mix the signal of the two to try to get a better sound. I plan to buy a pre Headway EDB-1 and I wonder if I could blend the two pickups and get a good result.
Any ideas?

You just have to try it out and see. There's no way to tell if you will like it or not. The Headway pre is great at what it is supposed to do. I currently run an Underwood and Ehrlund together and it gives me everything I could ask for. I might go back to a FullCircle if I get my bridge adjusters reversed.

I would like to dig up this old thread. I'm thinking about combining the full circle with the ehrlund. I own a markbass ac121 and could just blend on the amp but I feel that it's eq is rather limited plus I really want to check out a pre-amp with hpf. Right now I'm just using a full circle with a platinum di, but I don't like the sound of the latter. Should I go with a headway or a radial pz-pre? Thanks!
