Preamps that rival the Sansamp DI?

It seems that lots of people are crazy over the Sansamp DI. Have you heard one that is better than the Sansamp are just about the same? I'm looking to get one since I'm in a band again. If you could help me out and mention a few that would be awesome!

There are actually MANY. Off the top of my head some of the popular ones include the Tone Hammer, Rusty Box, M80, and VT Deluxe. A couple of more exotic examples are the Darkglass B7K, DHA VT1-EQ, and EBS Microbass. These are just the tip of the iceberg though, lots more to choose from depending on your specific tone and function goals. Try searching on "preamp" in this forum.

+1 for the dark glass although not the cheapest. Someone is selling one in the classifieds right now actually for a really good deal. Don't know if it's still available though.

I own a SansAmp and really like the sound it gives. I've also used an Aguilar Tone Hammer and it also produces some really nice tones. You can find some pretty fancy DIs out there, but for the money the SansAmp is rugged and gets the job done.

Behringer bdi21 is a reasonably priced clone of the sansamp.
