Brendan,
The P5 body is a regular Precision-style body, but it is fairly light. If you downsize the body too much, or go TOO light with the body wood, you may start to impact tone. More importantly, you may end up with a bass that experiences neck-dive. The regular P body seems to work pretty well for the P5.
