Precision and Jazz?

Is there a difference between Fender/Squier Precision Basses and Fender/Squier Jazz Basses?

HUGE!!! I put a Fender logo on a 2X4 and then dragged it along the ground and hit it against a brick wall to scuff it up a bit and you should have seen everyone drool with envy. That didn't happen with my Squier 2X4.

Sorry, i have to disagree. The Impact of Pickup Covers on Sound is much more as the Impact of Pick Guards.

However, the Jazz Bass has less Pickguard Surface than the Precision. This make a Difference for sure. The Question is if the Difference of 37% of tone is on the Jazz Bass or on the Precision. Where do you got the Data? GC?

I think Jaco was aware of this and that's why he took off the Pickuard of he's Jazz Bass. I found this info somewhere on Wikipedia.

On a serious note Matt- not all Squier basses are created equal, and if
you're talking about an early 80's Japanese Squier bass then you might
have something that rivals the best of either brand. IMHO

To refrain from flaming, your either a total newbie who just learned a lesson (google, musiciansfriend prices, ect.) or a troll. I will assume you are a newb. Squire to fender is as Epiphone is to Gibson. They use cheap hardware and construction is hit or miss. For the price you can usually find a decent one. There are Mexican and American fenders. Americans being top notch, Mexicans being good. P bass vs jazz- different neck (jazz being thin, P being a log), different pickup configuration, different electronics, different sound and feel. There is a huge distain for squire, but you can find some good ones, and they can be a great value. I personally dislike fender/squire in general, probably because everyone else does. I hope that answers your question. Obviously your curious (or a troll), you should go out to some shops and try all four, hell try an American or two.

OP- if you a troll its too bad you cant frap to get off, and have to make people look like idiots behind a computer screen. I'd like to see you on the streets. If you are in fact an ignorant newb, I hope you learned to research first (this ones not hard), then ask questions.

All Kidding aside the Jazz has a narrower neck and the way the pickups are configured and the body contours although it is hard to notice at first glance if you are a novice,Having owned both P and J I have resisted Fender for 20 years because it seemed everybody had one and I wanted to be different but now that I am a vain old Rocker I always like to own a P and or a J because they do have a special look and sound and I do love Fender products because while I was resisting Fender bass for years I was playing and still playing a Fender Strat and intermitently using Fender Amps,Here is a picture of my J bass

Looking at some of these responses I think you guys are being hard on that kid for asking a fair question,not all of us here respond like this kid so go try em both and if you are starting and using a Squier you are in good company though as someone stated earlier they are a hit or miss,
