Dude, no need to get your panties in a wad with Squier Owner's Syndrome. The OP was the one who used the phrase "proper Precision". And I think I put my reasoning pretty succinctly when I said this:

If you [the OP] don't like the Squier, you'll still be left with the question "should I try a proper Precision? I might like that, even though I didn't like the Squier." And if you DO like the Squier, you'll also still be left with the question "should I try a proper Precision? I might like that so much better it would be worth the extra money to me."

In saying "proper Precision" I meant that over the years I've owned a few basses with a p-style pickup, but they were far from typical "Precision" design, such as a Hondo explorer-type and a Fender Japan thinline semi-hollow. A statement about overall design style rather than manufacturer.

No need to bicker fellas, you're both right in different ways, but my intention was more of the "close enough" style Cliff's talking than the "by-the-book definition" of Stu's answer.

My vote lies with the Squier.

Seeing as though it's not going to be used in a band yet and you're getting it to try one out and have said yourself that you probably wouldn't hear the difference and I doubt you'd feel the difference especially if you're swapping the neck and most other parts down the line.

Looking at your previous posts in this thread it looks to me like if you bought the HO you would be paying the extra cash for the finish alone which personally I wouldn't do.

I felt the need to bring in some of my bandmates into the music store with me when I was shopping for basses. I am really glad I did too. The H1 was probably the bass I was going to buy new, but when I went to the store the band really could hear the difference between the USA P standard and the H1, lets just say the USA won, easily. I then proceeded to find a used american standard in great shape. it hasn't let me down, and I know it will always sound and feel right.
