Precision headstock decals and years

dpbass.jpg

EDIT: This resource definitly has the Dates wrong on at least the last two stickers.

Still a good example of Vintage Fender logos though.

So -
'51 - '68, small "Precision" logo, '68 - 82 (or so) larger "Precision" logo.

This means Bob's "Shadows" bass is a late '60, not mid '60. Unless late '68/early '69 is mid '60...:eyebrow:

The best guess I can give you from the pic you had posted is that the bass he's playing is from somewhere between 68 and early 74.

That's definitly not a Mid 60's P bass, unless the headstock logo was changed at some point (not likely) or the neck was replaced with a newer one.

It's important to note that these dates are simply generalities. Fender wasn't that particular. The Precision I posted earlier had a neck date (pencil) of 12-64, but featured the bottom decal (the one designated as '66-'68).

You're right, I didnt' even look at the dates on there. Not sure if the others are right, but they definitly blew it on the last 2. The last logo started being used in late 63/early 64 on Precisions. I think they stopped using that in 67 or very early 68. My 64 has the transitional logo, as does every 65 and 66 I've ever seen. Nice catch Fuzzbass. Editied earlier post.

Hi,
When did Fender change their P-bass headstock decal from the one in the left pic (or variants of it) to the one in the right pic? I've always assumed that the headstock decal in the right pic was introduced in the seventies (1970?) - and that the other one is pre-'70's (and then again used later on). Is this right?
Any help appreciated!
Thanks!
