I'm changing my "junk" Ibanez srx 690e tuning pegs to precision open pegs,but I'm ordering a set for $8.99 from Amazon and can't find a template to figure how much of the mounting I most probably will have to grind off to fit headstock. Ibanez srx has narrow headstock and at least 2 posts are going to be close to edge and precision tuners will hang over a little. What I found was 50mmx39mm. A lot bigger than the cheap gotoh sealed tuners. Any help would be appreciated. Cant afford better,limited income.

The originals are likely Gotoh copies, not the real thing. Why not replace them with real Gotoh GB7, which are not very expensive, or something else with a small footprint and small posts like Hipshot or Sperzel? There are traditional open-gear tuners like Gotoh GB528 or GB10 that have a smaller plate, but they will still require enlarging the post holes in the headstock. If you cut down the plates, you will likely end up with flaking chrome and rusty edges, so overall it's probably a bad idea.
I agree with @Bloomfield, get better tuners. I get that you are on a limited income. You can buy decent Gotoh tuners one at a time. A tuner a month for four months. Individual Gotoh Compact Bass Tuner | stewmac.com
If that won't do it for you then you should just wait until you have the new tuners before attempting to make any plans for mods. I doubt you will be able to do what you want though; the worm is usually housed very near the edge of the tuner, so there's no room to trim the plate. Can you plug and re-drill the head stock?

You guys are right. Thanks for your input. I needed someone with experience with this matter. I'll stick with gotoh tuners. Again, thanks for you inputs.
As far as drilling post. No way. I planned on using same post holes,and trimming off mount plate where it overlaps and exceeds headstock. I made template from pics and would have had 2 overlaps and 2 over edge. I figured that that wasn't too bad,but not what I really expected. So Bloomfield and sissy Kathy you convinced me to forget it.
