An unexpected work bonus and a little tax money and I've bestowed upon myself my first "new" bass in...well...ever. I usually buy low/inexpensive basses, over invest in upgrades, and then sell them for a loss ( :woot: ) but I've been jonesing for a Lakland 55-94 for quite a while and almost pulled the trigger on a beautiful one in the classifieds but I just couldn't bring myself to do it. Dollar for dollar (and considering I spend most of my time playing in dive bars), I decided on a "scratch & dent" 55-02 Deluxe spalted maple w/rosewood board from Sweetwater. I've read the LH-3 pickups can impart a bit of zing so opted for a rosewood neck instead of full maple to help smooth it out a bit. On the Fedex truck but likely won't get it until Monday. Gah!

Considering a picture is worth a thousand words, I'll let them show you why I bought it. drool

Flamed spalted maple cap over an ash body.

Someone took their time laying out the body on the wood blank. I love how the grain encircles the upper horn and upper bout.

While not a quartersawn neck, the cathedral arches straight up the back of this flatsawn one will do quite nicely.

Weighs in at a relatively paltry 8 lbs, 10 oz. Not bad for a five string in my opinion. And I really like how the maple fretboard markers match the body and headstock.

Anyway. I couldn't wait to share and will be a weekend of repeated checks of the Fedex tracking!

I played a 55-02 for several years, great basses. That ones a beauty! Congrats!

I’m constantly rotating between a Jazz, P, and ‘Ray so I’m hoping this will get close enough to all three so I can stop the juggling.

Of course I’m keeping the Jazz, P, and ‘Ray just in case. :woot:

Man oh MAN! That is one right pretty bass. I played a Lakland the other day. It was real nice. I'm sure you're gonna dig it!

Thank you for your indulgence,

BassCliff

I did the same thing last week with a sadowsky. It's fun and terrible all at the same time

Hopefully you've received yours already. Sweetwater set the expectation I'd have it on Saturday but looking back, that would have been incredibly fast so I'm just trying to be patient and not repeatedly check the tracking.

Did the same thing waiting for my new 2014 Am.Std Precision to arrive & the delivery date changed, due to the break between Christmas & the New year :banghead:.And I even had it delivered to where I work so I could see it quicker instead of having it sent to my home address and having to wait till I got home to see it :nailbiting:.
Hope you get your bass soon .
