Double Bass Presonus Eureka for DB

This preamp has been mentioned now and then on the BG side, but not over here AFAIK.

I took a chance and bought one online recently. It needed a repair because the dual transistor input stage had been partly cooked. These original parts are now essentially unavailable, so I grafted in a pair of the JFETs recommended by Francis deck for his 'quick and dirty' preamp. The result is great, and my unit is now fully operational.

Here are the main things I love about this device:
- IEC mains connection, no batteries or wall-wart
- 'mic in' with 48V phantom, polarity, 80Hz hi-pass,20dB pad, selectable impedance OR
- 1Mohm 'instrument in'
- 3 band fully parametric EQ
- XLR and 1/4inch outputs
it also has balanced effects send and return and a
compressor (selectable before or after EQ), although these were not a high priority for me.
The mic and instrument inputs have a 'saturation' control which I doubt I will use.

I have tried the Eureka out with the e906 and the Audix M1250B mics on my bass so far. The impedance selector has a nice subtle effect on the e906 tone.

Many reviews mention the small controls on the front panel, and they can be a challenge for my big hands. I put a strip of tape on the top of the unit and drew a guide to which dial was which, this has helped a bit.

Salut Francois, here are some pics, including my mic setups. I haven't tried it with the Ischell yet, as it doesn't need 48V like the Audix, or lots of gain like the Sennheiser.
You can see how small the controls are for my big fingers...
Steve
