Prestige Wylde Thing

Hey, I was wondering if anyone here has had any experience with this bass, or knows anything about this Company, Prestige. I bought this bass online without having previously played one last year, based mostly on the looks. I like things that are a little different, out of the ordinary, and the body shape really caught my attention. The pictures do not do the finish justice... it is a transparent black, and in the right lighting, the wood grain really pops with almost a purplish hue. Most people i've shown it to hate the body style, but love the finish. Has a Maple body/ neck and rosewood fret board, brass nut, 35" scale, push/pull volume knob for active/passive controls.

I've been trying hard to love this bass, and i can't honestly say theres anything in particular "wrong" with it, it just for some reason doesn't "do it" for me. I never expected it to pass my MTD as my go-to bass, but I find this thing spending a lot more time sitting in the case than i would like. Just wondering if anyone else has played one and what your impressions of it were.

Very Princely, and you're not the first one to have said that. A while ago I watched the 1989 Batman movie on blu-ray, which had a couple of Prince music videos in the special features. The guitar he used in the video for *I think* Batdance had a very similar body shape, same upper horn.

I've never been very good at describing tone, but compared to my MTD its definitely a more modern rock n roll sound. The MTD is much brighter. Prestige has much higher output pups. The pan knob between the 2 pups and the active/ passive 3 band eq gives it a good variety in tone as well.

i have one, its an older model, but it still plays amazing. for the price, its a steal.
the tone shaping capabilities are endless, you literally could get any tone you want.
the neck also feels great. the only problem i have is that the pickups are too hot.

Looks like this thread may have died down but I have both 4 and 5 string versions of this bass, and even had their custom shop one off NAMM bass that had an entirely wicked pre-amp setup with a switch that could bring the pickups out of phase for some crazy tones.

Should we start a Prestige Wylde Bass Owners Club?

I know this is late coming, but I personally love this bass. I would compare it to a Music Man Bass. Here is mine. I don't understand what's not to love about it. It plays with ease, the tone is incredible! You just probably don't like your bass looking like a "Prince" guitar!

Hey, I just bought one of these in 4 string mode. I should have it by this Friday.
