2016 Wal Mk. 1 Fretless 4-String Bass. Excellent condition. See photos. Five-piece Maple/Mahogany neck with Indian Ebony fingerboard with inlaid fretlines. No face dots (NOTE: side dots are *between* the fretlines, i.e., where they would typically appear on a fretted bass). Body has gorgeous African Zebrano facings, front and back, accent laminate, and Mahogany core. Clear satin finish. Standard Wal filter-based preamp system with pull-volume “Pick Attack” function. Very comfortable weight at ~9.5 lbs. This instrument has been kept in a climate controlled studio environment for most of its life and has zero issues - everything functions exactly as it should, including the truss rod. NOTE: there is a slight dead spot (lack of sustain) on the G-string at the D and Db positions (i.e., at the sixth and seventh “frets”) - if you use flat-wound strings, I doubt you’d notice. Regardless, I was able to fully ameliorate this condition by attaching a $15 Fender Fatfinger to the headstock (see photos - it will be included with the sale, of course), though other, less conspicuous remedies are also available (PM for details and links).*
Sale includes the original Wal-branded Hiscox hardshell case, also in excellent condition. Beautiful playing and sounding instrument - I hate to sell it, but I’ve shifted to five-stringers and cannot justify letting this one sit in its case any longer.
The wait time for a new Wal build is up to 44 months** - skip the line and get an incredible fretless Wal today. I’ve got plenty of positive feedback here and on Reverb under my “Brooklyn Bassics” shop.
Please review all photos carefully, as they form part of the description, and be sure to ask any questions before committing to purchase.
$9,500 shipped/insured.
* Buyer has a three-day approval period commencing from the date of delivery. In the event Buyer is dissatisfied with the effectiveness of the Fatfinger - or any other aspect of the bass - simply return the instrument to Seller in the original case, AND IN AS-SHIPPED CONDITION, and I will refund the full purchase price.
NOTE: IN THE EVENT OF A RETURN, BUYER ASSUMES SOLE RESPONSIBILITY FOR THE PROMPT AND SAFE RETURN OF THE INSTRUMENT AND CASE, AS WELL AS PAYMENT OF ALL ASSOCIATED RETURN SHIPPING AND INSURANCE COSTS.
** Subject to change by Wal (the pre-pandemic build estimate was
“only” 36 months).
NO PAYPAL. NO TRADES. FOR SALE IN THE CONTINENTAL US ONLY.
