Prince's music

Prince had a drug problem because of pain, as the case with a lot of people that get caught in the unmanageable web of drug addiction. Maybe some of you have family members or friends in this situation which will allow you to relate on a compassionate level. Those of you that can't relate, God bless you. Poor people in pain become addicted to heroin because they can't get prescription drugs. Rich people become addicted to prescription meds because they have the means to attain them. Both cases are unfortunate and will continue to be until some scientist discovers a solution to provide non-addictive pain medication. The world lost a brilliant creator, whose work ethic left those of us that loved and respected his musical genius a treasure trove of music to continue to explore.

While I don't pretend to know the extent of his medical issues, but if it was something that could have been fixed as in a hip replacement surgery why not do that ? instead of tempting that slippery slope of pharmaceutical pain killers.
Too late now obviously but there is no need to live with pain when there are options beside drugs to relieve it with.

Prince was a Jehovah's Witness, and apparently that religion forbids blood transfusions. That's the reason given to me when I asked that question

This is a neat story from the New York Times.

I think this is my favorite part from that story:
Then I was sitting there, and I heard somebody playing a guitar riff from a song that I wrote with Average White Band. And I looked over and Prince was looking right at me and playing that song. And I thought, “Yeah, you actually do know who I am!”

It's like, seriously, Prince just had such a depth of music knowledge.

Not sure this has been shared here already but check it!

Larry Graham on bass!!

I have seen LOADS of live Prince since he passed, and this one right here might take it! That was flippin' awesome in every way. I love how he starts directing the band as he breaks it down at the end, round about 8:15. Waving the background singer off, and then bringing the rhythm guitar in, etc. and just feeling his way through it.

Mentioned it before - he always assembled KILLER bands. His NPG bands and/or era might be my favorite though.

Have you seen his stuff with Grupo Fantasma?

I'm surprised that Steve Ferrone was surprised that Prince knew who he was. The dude was in AWB for years, and was a first call NYC drummer. How on earth would Prince have been great as he was without studying music and musicians?
