Since I have upgraded to being a supporting member, nobody has been able to send me private messages. I have to start the conversation with them, then they are able to reply. Do you know what went wrong?

You have conversations disabled in your privacy settings. Pull down your user menu to "Privacy" and then check the box to allow members to initiate conversations with you:
