Pro set up

Is it necessary to have a pro set up a new bass or can you do it your self following these instructions?????? I have a new sting ray and wanting to put on my new flats and just wondering if i follow these instructions if the action will be ok???

A few points.
1. Lots of people do their own setups
2. An hour isn't a very long time to wait for answers on a weeknight, particularly because....
3. This is in the wrong forum. Those looking to answer setup questions will probably be hanging in the Setup forum where this belongs. I'll move it there for you now. Oh, and..
4. I think your question mark keys are stuck ;) :D

I recently bought a brand new Gibson Thunderbird IV via the internet. It needed a setup badly so for $85 I got it set-up and it was worth it. The bass cost $1600 plus so the set-up was 5% of the purchase price. . . . . Starting off with a new instrument I try to get a pro set-up to start off....Its your call:cool:

Ya thats what i was thinking. I guess i was trying to get it done faster my self so i will wait for the app on wed

I must agree with JLS. I have had far too many cases where owners have brought me their bass for setup after they tried themselves and really messed things up. If you are handy with tools, careful and accurate you can set up a bass yourself. Follow the instructions, and be thorough and precise. Don't force anything. If you don't have the RIGHT tool for the job, don't try to make do with something else.

I had one bass set up pro, it played awesome after. So I took measurments off it and have been doing my own setups ever since. I feel that I am getting pretty good at it now and started doing set ups on friends' basses. A friend asked me if I could set up his strat. I told him I am capable, but the strings are too thin;)
