Problem with Bass, Help!

Okay so I am a total newbie at this but I have a big problem. My bass will not make sound when I amp it up. Nor does the tuner pick up any signal when the bass is plugged in to it. Any ideas on what might be causing this problem? Am I going to be stuck taking it in to a shop? =(

For reference, the volume switch is on.

Ricdiculous and Joshua both have good ideas. I would suspect the guitar cable or the jack on the bass. If you are getting no signal to the tuner plugged straight into the tuner from your bass, then I would suspect eather the cable or the output jack from your bass. If you have another guitar cable try it out and if that fixes the problem, good. If it does not I would suspect the output jack on the bass itself. If you do not know how to solder, I would take the bass to the shop and let someone do it for you. It may be the jack itself is dirty or oxidized to where the ground is interupted. Again I would take this to the shop. I use a piece of steel wool or scotchbright to clean my jacks and plugs from time to time to eliminate this sort of problem. A bad cable or jack can also sound like a blown speaker. I hope this helps.

Look on the back side of the bass body, do ya see a little cover there held by phillips screws? pull the cover (if you have the right screw driver) and see if there is a 9 volt battery in there then your pickups are active. if there is a battery then i'll bet you probably left the bass plugged in and when ya switched off the amp it drained the battery.....

How do I know?? ;) I done it a couple times

Hah. Yeah, I feel a little silly. Well, Im glad I posted here before taking it to the shop, you saved me a lot of useless effort. Thanks a lot for the help!
