Problem with single Pickup with 2 volumes and 1 tone

So, Hi everybody.

I am a 2 years practicing bassist, and this year i decide that i have to change my pickup for my bass (it was from the company of the bass, Strinberg its called) from one from a company called DS (Argentinian Crafter). The pickup Is called Musicman 5-C (The model of my bass is like a Stingray 5 clasic) and giving the reputation DS has for price/quality i decide to go with that.

The problem i have is that this pickup has 2 volume and 1 tone, while the original one has 1 volume, 1 treble and 1 bass.

My question Is : Is this a good thing? Has anyone has the same setups, and what i have to do if is this something wrong? The two volume doesnt do any difference for me is i have the two all the way up or in the middle or in any way. Its feel like playing a precision bass but with a extra volume .

If anyone know, it would be of great help his/her opinion.

I played a bass like that once, I believe it was an OLP passive stingray copy. I think it works well for a passive version of the bass, as there’s not much bass to cut (and you cannot boost in passive), but preserves the three-knob look. I kinda liked the neck coil soloed.

one option is to install a rotary pickup selector to have different pickup configurations available (neck, series, parallel, bridge) + volume and tone. Same look, more sound options.

There's no reason to ever have two volume controls on the same pickup. Either the person who rewired your bass was incompetent or you're incorrect about the function of the knobs.

Did you have them remove the preamp when they changed pickups?

OLP basses (which are passive, by the way) used a "spin-a-split" knob that was basically like blend pot for going from humbucker mode to single coil mode. So that's how you get three knobs on a single pickup bass. I honestly don't know if the spin-a-split works like master volume and blend, or simply has volume controls for each coil.

It looks like it's a MM style humbucker, so the two volumes are one for each coil, like a Jazz bass essentially.

It's not the most useful configuration, as the coils are very close and they don't sound THAT different, but there are differences and allows you to blend them to get some slightly different tones. Old OLPs were wired that way
