Problem with volume pots

I have a Classic Vibe Jag bass with stacked volume and tone controls. When I turn down the bridge pickup volume it kills everything. Does anyone have a likely explanation as to what I should be looking for before I take it apart? I mean, that's not how these work, right?

Yes, it most likely wired with both volume pot's wipers (center wire lug on the volume pots) wired to the output Jack. To stop this they need to be wired as follows: Swap the wires on the wiper and outer non grounded lugs on each individual Volume pot's

The following wiring diagram shows how it needs to be.
