Problematic D212XLT

[Stanley Design]

Bought it new a few months ago on order from my localstore.

Recieved it, got it home, played it..... 1)no bottom end, 2)no volume, 3)Sounds like clipping on notes at any volume or gain settings whatsoever.

I figure it's the new Nemesis 650 I'm running and I need more headroom for the lows. Returned amp. Get a brand new in box yamaha high power poweramp, tons of headroom. Problems still there.

Try 4-5 different preamps, same problem.

Try different basses, same problem.

Try new cables, same problem.

Take it back to the store finaly, they find the same problem, send it to their eden tech.

Eden tech calls me, can't find a problem. Takes it back to the store and they are kind of wishy washy now and want me to take my gear in to try and blame something else other than the cab.

What should I do? Every single piece of gear is less than a year old.

I'd say the drivers are out of phase. Switch the leads to one.

That's what I thought, but I knew I wasn't allowed to do it myself after I thought of that (after narrowing it down to the cab), and I assumed that'd be the first thing the eden certified guy would have tried.

you know what they say about assuming... I'm not sure how Eden customer service is in Canada, but it's pretty good in the USA. You can always go to the eden forums at www.eden-electronics.com and talk to lane, the moderator- he's pretty good about getting answers.

I'm with Bill on this,try switching the leads on one of the speakers,no bottom end is a classic out of phase symptom.

before switching the leads, you can test your cab with a jack cable and a 9v battery.
Plug the cable in the cab and touch the other end with the battery (+ on the tip and - on the ring)
The hp cones must move in the same way... if not they are wired out of phase and you just have to switch the leads

Alright, an update for you guys if you like.

Turns out there was something screwy with the poweramp. They tried to tell me "it's a PA power amp and not meant for bass that's why it isn't working, you need the Ampeg power amp" .....yeah right, I told them I wanted a full refund and nothing less, and got it. I traded the cab to my buddy who works there for his new PA. So I'm now currently ampless with 1200 dollars. But I think I'm going to spend that on my loans and then worry about a new amp whilst shopping the for sale forum here

Man..I would never deal with a store that spews such nonsense.

If someone had the nerve to feed that BS to me, I'd ask them to explain why running bass direct through the PA seems to work OK...

exactly, I'm not shopping there anymore. This guy went to school and is a studio engineer, I assumed he would know a bit about gear, he had never heard of BBE, QSC, Stewart, Accugroove, Epiphany, Berg., etc. Pretty much any company other than the most common ones on the site were new to him. It's a very frustrating store to deal with. Also, the guy loves behringer tone/products ad is always forcing them down my throat, and although maybe they do the job,they defiately aren't the tone I like.

I would doubt that most bassists that don't hang out online or read BP (or other bass magazines) have ever heard of AccuGroove, Epifani or Bergantino (among others). And perhaps they're happier that way. All of these choices (especially when they're not readily available to try out) can drive a guy nuts!

I dunno, if I were a salesperson for a specific product (whether it be furniture, bass gear, or gortex, etc) I would make sure I know as much about the products as I can. It's just wierd when I know more than them and sort of annoying, I like to talk shop and I'm not THAT knowledgable, so I always look for help and advice.

You're going to find that you have a much greater vested interest in knowing the specifics of anything that you're shopping for than the sales staff that you're going to be buying it from... They need to know a little bit about everything they sell, but you've poured yourself into finding a solution for your particular need.

Over the years I've found that this applies to musical instruments, automobiles, etc. Plus, I'm an electrical engineer by day and it's my nature to study (aka worry about) the technical details.

I would hope that the sales force at a speciality shop like Bass Club Chicago, Low Down Sound, Bass Central, Bass Northwest, etc. would know the market better, but I would never blindly assume anything.

The Crest has been used for PAs in smaller clubs
so Im not sure what they were talking about as far as having to get an AMPEG
sounds like a load of !$% to me
as long as its clean power you should have been fine
