Problems with index finger …

Hello,
I'm currently having problems with the base joint of my left index finger (my fretting hand). I'm receiving physiotherapy and taking ibuprofen. My doctor said the symptoms are a sign of overuse. When playing bass, I'm now paying more attention to warming up and improving my fretting technique. I play D'Addario Hexcore strings, and to make fretting easier, I'm considering switching to DR Roundcore strings. Do you think that could help improve the symptoms in the long run?

Thanks in advance 🙂

I've had my share of tendonitis in my wrists and fingers and unfortunately, changing strings will do less good than you might think. If your fingers are overloaded, the only thing that will reduce the symptoms are rest... A lower action will also really help. Different strings? Not so much. Maybe a lighter gauge a little bit, depending on where the pain comes from.

Thanks for your advice …
A lower action would mean I should stick with hexcores, right? As far as I know, a lower action is more difficult with roundcores?
