Problems with new neighbors...

lol. good stuff. noisy dogs are CRAP to deal with. i work at a dog grooming place. we love the canines. we hate the noise. the whole shop is built around making the dogs as comfortable as possible so we don't have to listen to that.

-a Billion on the Tascam Trainer. why SHOULD he have to turn down? sounds like he's already lower than he needs to be, they are being more disrespectful by having worse noise...... play as loud as you want to as long as you don't exceed the decibel limit.

I also play bass and the nice thing about that is you can plug in headphones and nobody will give you crap!

Exactly. My neighbour that lives below me complains when people WALK across the hallway.

As a result I rarely get to practice my drums unless I manage to come home early from work, but I practice at least an hour of bass and guitar every day with headphones. Sucks not to be able to hear my lovely amp but better than nothing.

Im curious, and want a better idea of the situation, so- Do you own or rent, and same Q for them, rent or own?
Not that it changes the situation, you've still got a problem to deal with. Just finding out the details. I mean if you're renting, this is a temporary issue. If you own, and they rent, thats another angle...You can get a landlord involved.
If you both own, I want links to the inevitable YouTube postings.

And DUDE that sounds like one SERIOUS dog. Husky Rot mix, whatever you do, don't antagonize that thing!!

Play as loud as you want, within reason. It`s a free frickin country. Within reason. Tell them you were there first and the previous neighbors didn`t have a problem with it, so it must be them. After the police show up @ your door the first time, cut your volume from then on and call the cops every time their fleabag so much as farts. I had neighbor problems once. They finally moved, and my current ones are major partiers. Works out great; I get to play as loud as I want day or night, and they get to get drunk and barbeque in the backyard every weekend. Win / win !

Worst advice ever. Animal control's job is to catch stray dogs. They have nothing to do with how loud an owners dog is barking within a fenced piece of property.

This will only make the situation worse. It's the same mentality as them calling the cops on him.

I play bass but I'm a dog owner too. If someone called animal control on my dog (my family) I'd be at your door with a shotgun, dude.

Why do you need to practice real loud? Drummer? That would be a good answer. You need to learn the local laws. The police probably don't know them so they will just bully you into quiting which makes their job easy. I got a big kick out of a cop that said "I'll have to tell the lady you are not breaking any laws so theres nothing I can do" (and that was after bully tactics that didn't work). I have a friend that throws regular parties. He gets a noise permit. When the cops show up he produces the permit and the cops go away. Your best bet is finding a place that you can go all night (they do exist ie. country setting, industrial area, underground basement etc).

You're correct about Animal Control. Around here its the non-emergency Police we call. And If your dog is barking constantly, I will call it in. I work over night, get home at 7am, I have a neighbor 2 doors down w/ a dog that when put in the back yard howls, For Hours. So yeah, sorry, its noon, and your dog has howled for three straight hours keeping me awake, The cops will be called. Its called a paper trail, learn to use it.
So you can show up at my front door with whatever weapons you want.
A. Im going to be raging pissed that you woke me.
B. Im going to have the law on my side.
So come on down, I love slapping over aggressive douche-bags with assault charges. The restraining order is gonna be fun too.

And to preempt some questions, The owner has been told,by more than one neighbor- he denies that his dog howls. So I have no problems calling the law on him.

You were there first so "F"em. Play at a respectable volume so when the cops come they will back you up for being within your right in your home. If they go as far as making a complaint about your bass being too loud to the cops, then you make one right back after the cops leave about their dog barking all night.

Alright, buddy. I didn't do anything to you :rollno:... yet. :D

My dog wouldn't be howling or barking because she's trained.

I'm not taking up for the types that neglect their animal to the point that it's being a nuisance. And I'm not arguing one side or the other as far as this thread goes. I have a general distaste for hypocritical types such as the neighbors in the OP.

I wasn't trying to incite a feud; just make a point that it's an improper and really under-handed way to deal with such a situation. The people are the one's with the problem, not the dog.

My dog is like a family member. If the dog is hauled off I would react as if my son or daughter had been kidnapped. Pissing a dog owner off to this level isn't going to help your cause. Got it? :cool:

My apologies, I was a bit harsh in my reply. I really don't want any feuds either. Least not over this. So my sincere apologies.
I totally agree that its the humans w the problem and not the dog. But the owner must control his animal. If after nicely asking for something to be done, he wont. Then I have only two choices, and the nice one is calling the cops for a friendly visit. Sometimes there really is no other choice.

And I completely agree that a dog is a family member. If someone threatened my dog it'd be the same as a threat to the rest of my family. Then again, if my kids go causing trouble in the neighborhood, its again my job to control them. Or a neighbor may need to call the cops on them if I cant or wont.
