Problems with pup selection ...any suggestion?

Hi all ...I'm planning my first building and the time have came to choose a finally pickups and electronics setup to be used. What I'm looking here is a sound with rich lows and low midrange but not with dead nor harsh highs either so I have tried too look for pups\woods able to give me this sound. I would like this to be a versatile bass so I'm going after a preamp that can complete all this. Having in mind all this I have read about the 50% of the threads of this forum and a few others sites so I can have a nice combo for pickups and electronics.

My thoughts

Electronics: Being this is my first building I don't want to mess much with electronics. Bartolini's NTMB 5.4 preamp which cames alrealdy prewired which is great for me at this point. This preamb is like this: volumen (pull\push active\passive) - blend - low - mid (with 3 eq selector switch) and treble.

I tried to find some review here and at bassplayer about this preamp but nothing cames from the search.

Pickups: First I was thinking to get two barts soapbars but having in mind that with this bart preamp I can switch from active to passive I decided to go for another combination. A J pup came up to my mind for the neck and stay with a soapbar at the brigde (I really like the look of this pup types together :)). The blend knob instead a tone one should be a plus because when I'm in passive mode I can turn all the blend knob to the J pup and in active mode I can go for a more even mix between both pups.

After reading SMASH's pups review thread (btw ...SMASH that threat is just great!!!), bassplayer reviews and a few more reviews here and there I think that I'm going for a Norstrand here. Don't like much that hummmmm so I decided to go for splits. NJ4SV pup is the choosen one but there is one more pup to choose and I'm having some problems here. It must be a humbucker with a soapbar shape or similar. I thought about trying bart's BB4C but barts may won't give me the sound I'm looking for. I thought that with the preamp I may be able to modify the sound of this pup into something I like but then I read some comments about Nordstrand MM2 too but I couldn't find complete review about them. I haven't look for any other pup so far but I thought post this here while I keep with my research.

So guys... It would be great if I can get any comment, suggestion or what ever from you!!!

PS: I don't want this to become a $2000 first project but I decide to accept some exceptions (like with pups selection) but my wallet seems to dislike exceptions so sky won't be the limit ...at least this time!! :D.
