ProCo Fat Rat...Who's Tried It??

Hey y'all. Who's tried and or have and or use the proco fat rat?? I saw a pic of it last week and sorta forgot about it. Then I just got a fuzzro rat tail tonight and started looking online and rats n stuff. And I saw it again. It's looks kinda awesome. So I'm curious now.....

I bought a proco rat, probably a II, a few years ago brand new at GC. I liked it. Got it the band mix though and it completely disappeared and of course the low end dropped right out. But I was reading over at TGP forum and someone from proco made the fat rat sound pretty awesome (of course he did, he's with the company) so again, I'm curious how the fat rat performs in the mix and with bass of course and how it may hold up to some of the better boutique rats out there on the world right now like say the fuzzro rat tail.

Been meaning to post here. I bought one. It's a pretty cool RAT pedal, definitely better than a current RAT/RAT 2 on bass, and also holds lows better than a Turbo RAT.

I think it's the best RAT Proco makes for bass, but there's too many added options available with companies like Fuzzrocious to not make their versions of a RAT able to retain low end and work better for bass. But if you want to own a RAT from Proco, like the simplicity, look, heritage, etc. then I definitely recommend the Fat RAT as the one to go with. My one caveat is I really like the Turbo RAT's gain and grit but overall I think the Fat RAT will work better for more bassists than any other Proco RAT.

p.s. I also think the Fat RAT is WAY better than the supposed RAT-for-bass, the Juggernaut.
p.s.s. I own/have owned a butt load of Proco RAT variants as well as RAT clones from other builders. Lots to compare to the Fat RAT.

Hey Andrew! Are you still owning/using this pedal ? I've had 3 RAT pedals die on me... one original and two clones... thinking of getting this one. Or do you have another alternative?

Hi James,
I am not using the fat rat any more. If I were to buy a new RAT based pedal today it’d be the Damnation Audio DIY Drive.

It sounds awesome.

My RAT tones are currently coming from a Source Audio OFD. It’s a really good RAT too, with 3 band eq, clean blend and a gate. But having two channels that can sound like two different pedals in a small footprint on my board is important too.
