Profile brand bass guitars - any info?

They're made in Japan. I used to own an early 80s Profile strat in 3-tone sunburst with a rosewood fingerboard. I don't think they were sold in the USA - only Australia, Canada, UK, British colonies. I wish I still had the guitar.

Is re-heating a thread that has already been re-heated safe for consumption? Worth a shot...

Wondering if this is a bass that is one of the sleeper great P-basses mentioned above, but the model doesn't match any of the ones mentioned previously.
I came across a Profile "Professional" P-Bass copy today. This model was according to what was on the neck plate. I don't have pictures, but it is similar to this:

It was black with a maple neck and fretboard, with a single split coil pickup and volume / tone knobs.
Also, the headstock is similar to this but is, of course, a 4 string bass instead of guitar.

They are asking $150 CDN for it. The neck looks pretty good. I played it but didn't plug it in, but am thinking about going back tomorrow to take it for a real spin. Wanted to get some opinions on it first...

Tried it plugged in and it sounded OK, but they didn't have any decent amps to play it through. The neck had a bit of a hump on the g string side, but not the e string side, which was weird, so I took a pass on it... My search for a good, cheap P-Bass clone continues...

Old thread i know, but to cut a long story short i won a bay auction today for a squier se strat for modding for a friend for 50 quid
i turned up at the address in Radcliffe Manchester. to pick it up and the guy asked me if i would take this old bass as well, how much i said and he said nothing and just gave it me along with the strat, a black Profile Silhouette made in japan, i have just stripped it in the shed, rust everywhere but the neck is brilliant and truss rod works which is a bonus, the body is quite good too with a few small dint's Pots look good and sturdy pickups rusty poles, i play bass and i had never heard of them till today researching it brought me to this thread and it looks i have been given a good guitar when finished of course. great neck though

Yes they were an Australian brand. Introduced somewhere around '83/4. There were different models and series. The original vintage series Silhouettes were great Japanese instruments. Latter there were some very cheap models. I've seen guitar versions of those, but not basses. The Black Magic series were ok. Ugly, in my opinion, but still pretty good instruments.

I think it might have been Australis Music that commissioned them. I actually know a guy who was involved in their creation.

I used to own a nice Profile P copy, a Strat and Tele. A guy I know who owns a lot of basses, including early an '70s Fender J and 4/5 string Laklands, picked up a Profile P bass a couple of years ago and it's pretty much all he plays now.

Hi I just got given a old profile silhouette p bass in black came from a house clearance here in the UK.
pups have rusty poles, machine heads pitted, rusty bridge and control knobs.
But apart from a few dings the body and neck are in good condition I removed the neck as I am in the process of renovating it and it's dated 79? A Made in Japan neck plate! I had never heard of this bass but it appears they are quite good will post pics of it later,

Certainly not wanting to wake up such an old thread but I have just come across a profile P for sale @ 200 bucks cad. I am liking the condition of it and the grey metallic finish with the tort pickguard. I have read all the post here and it seems like a darn good P bass... hmmm what to do?Invalid Link RemovedInvalid Link Removed
