Hello all! I have acquired a Jackson c-20 bass guitar for free last week so I decided I would make it my project bass! I wanted a decent fretless bass with a natural finish so I de-fretted the neck, stripped the body and I am in the process of upgrading the hardware. I did a lot of reading on here before starting any work (since this is my first project) and my initial ideal was to de-fret the neck the correct way by using veneer but the neck had a twist in it so I was afraid I was going to have to scrap it. I ended up putting Walnut wood filler in the place of the frets, after the sanding and polyurethane I checked everything and the twist was gone! I put the neck back on the bass to see how it sounded/action and it works great so I will probably leave it like this. After I finished the neck I started on the body. After stripping the paint with aircraft stripper and sanding through the veneer I reached the body which to my surprise was very beautiful. It is made of Indian Cedar with what looks to be Maple (?) wings. I am in the process of applying polyurethane to the body (3rd coat). Does anyone know if there is a way to polish the wood to get a shine out of it?
I will post pictures of my progress when I get home (cannot access photobucket from work- if anyone would like to post them for me PM with your email and I will send them to you)
