yeah, definitely go for the 400+...i would recommend going with a used bass...you can find better used basses in the price range of a new schecter 6 string...i'd also look into different cabs...i'm almost sold on bergs, and from what's been recommended to me, the berg nv610 is a cab that would hook up to that head quite nicely...and why on earth would you need a POD with an amp like that mesa?

I picked Ampeg SVTHLF cabs because of their (alleged) low response and clarity. I can't just walk into a store and test all these products because I'm a several hour drive from the nearest store that carries any of them. So I'll either just have to order online or go to the nearest Guitar Center the day of purchase (probably spending a whole day there playing around).
As far as the POD goes, I just like to have a ridiculous amounts of customization options for tone; I'm fickle and never satisfied for too long with my sound.
Any counter recommendations are welcome.
With the Mesa, I'd get a shock rack. And eight spaces is IMO way too big for that set-up anyway.
Also, I'd ditch the POD. Unless you use A LOT of effects, just go for the standard stompboxes. You certainly won't need the amp modeling.

i use a mesa 400 non plus with the nv610 and it smokes. for the price of two 410hlfs you can get an nv610 and keep a better resale value. although, the 410hlf is a good cab as well and pairs decently with tube heads IMO, i would stick with the berg 610 and get a cheaper (used), but better bass.
If you want Ampeg-sounding 10's a single 810 will do it much MUCH better than the two 410's. If you want clarity (to me this means sparkly, hi-fi sound) you can do much better with other manufacturers (SWR, Eden, even Peavey).
That HLF series just doesn't do it for me -- not Ampeg enough to be Ampeg but not hi-fi enough to really compete with others.

Some people tell me that, but then others tell me just one 4x10 won't push enough air, especially up against my two guitarists' four 4x12s. Could you elaborate?
If you want deep, clear bass....I would highly recomend the Eden 410xst's......they are very efficient as well. I also like the sound of Mesa's 410 as well. If you need more than a 410, I would also say try a 610...the Berg is great, as is the Eden 610xlt (it is a true monster)...if I wqas running a Mesa 400+, I would go with Mesa cabs...I think their cabs match their heads GREAT!
Well, I wouldn't use any combination of SVT-410HLF cabs in that situation.
Just my preference though.
What type of tone are you looking for?
Never heard of anyone doing the dual-HLF thing, I wouldn't think it'd sound as good as a single 8x10 or 6x10.
Deep, punchy, clear/loud high end. That's why I didn't want the Ampeg SVT-810E. No horn.
Its a matter of personal taste I guess. I personally don't care for the Schecter stuff at all. I felt the basses I tried out hid behind the EMGs they were equipped with. I don't mind the HZ's all that much, probably wouldn't use them now though. I also didn't care for the 5&6 string models I've tried. This was a couple years ago, however. Overall feel of it just felt cheap to me. I realize budget is an issue, but at the 800-1000 dollar range, I feel you could get a better bass for that money. That's all.
If Schecter is your deal, then by all means do it and enjoy that ****! I'm sure it'll be a killer rig either way.

Are you using the Line 6 as your tone generator? If so, I'd recommend getting flatter response cabs that won't add any color to your sound, like good 3-way PA cabs if they have enough low end. They will reproduce the models more accurately in a live situation than a regular bass cab.

I'm not knocking the ampeg's, but I've played both and I think the dr bass rxl 310 is a MUCH better cab if you plan to use your pod, as I have one of the first rackmount's pods, and the 310 had better response....

While you're checking out Dr. Bass, look at the BL2460 or any of the BL series that are 3-way designs. The 400+ is a great bass amp but might add a little color to your models, that could be a good or bad thing depending on your tastes. If you're set on using the Line6 you might want to look at running to a regular, clean power amp. Personally, I'd just use the Mesa and ditch the bells and whistles but that's just me.
