Promotion Ideas

Hey everyone, I play in a Belfast based funk-rock band called the Dead Presidents. As a band we are in the process of organising our own night on the 29th of next month in a club in the centre of town. We picked this date because it falls on the week that everybody goes back to university, and with that in mind the night is going under the title of 'Funky Freshers'(A fresher is a first year student) We are doing the usual posters and flyer combination as well as harassing people on social networking sites. Has anybody got any cool and interesting ideas in regards drumming up some interest in the gig?

In Belfast dance music and turgid po faced Indy by numbers tends to dominate the local scene. Our philosophy as a band is that 'it's ok to shake your arse to live music' we want to get this across to people.

Cheers Matt

Beer Mats.

if you are playing at a venue get some beer mats made up with a

Playing Live Here:

on one side then get yourself a Date Stamp and offer them to the venue.

Beer Mats are usually an expense for most venues and to be offered to have some for free on the condition they get used leading up to the gig works very well for us.

NB: do not try and give the beer mats to pubs you aren't playing. and they can also work as unusual gig flyers.

Matt,

Willie Sutton, a famous bank robber, replied to a reporters question about why he robbed banks by saying "That's where the money is!"

So, if your targeting "freshers," then flyer the hell out of where they study, live, and congregate! (BTW - In his autobiography, Willie claims he never said such a thing)

Thanks everybody for taking the time to reply, we have just got the poster back from the graphic designer
. I like the bank robber idea, and if it's not too expensive I'm going to look into the the beer mats.

Erotically yours Matt

it'll cost you a bit, but if it's spread across the whole band, you'll barely feel the price, and even if it only gets you 10 heads through the door, it's 10 more than you had!

Also, try staging an arty/moody interview with clips from your music/gigs
