Proper Lacquer head tab

Discussion in 'Tablature and Notation [BG]' started by monkeylover009, Apr 26, 2005.

  1. Hi, sorry to whoever posted the tab on this site but its either really confusing or wrong!
    Nerc - nerc's (thats me!!) version on taborama is almost 100% right cept for the chord at the end and note he slides from on the bass fill!
    Here it is!

    Primus - Lacquer
    Tabbed By: nerc-nerc
    Email: cocky_009@hotmail.com

    Tuning: Standard (E A D G)

    This takes ages to get right but bear with it! If youve ever learnt tripleting
    and sixthing this ill be so much easier!

    I can promise you this is 100% right!
    First you need to get your left hand sorted. Bar all the strings over the 2nd
    fret but make sure you arent hitting any harmonics, you just need a mute.
    Now the tricky bit to get, you need to slap the e string, hammer on all 4 strings
    but dont push them against any fret and let them go quickly, pop the g string and
    then hammer all four strings as before.

    Keep up a rythmn of slap, hammer, pop, hammerthrough all of the main riff apart from
    the fills which go:
    s = Slap
    h = Hammer
    p = Pop
    t = Right hand tapping
    s h
    G|----X--------------||
    D|----X--------------||
    A|----X--2-3---------||
    E|-X--X------2-3-----||

    and the other fill which is just really two of the previous ones:

    s h
    G|----X--------------X---------------||
    D|----X--------------X---------------||
    A|----X--2-3---------X--2-3----------||
    E|-X--X------2-3--X--X------2-3------||

    Then unto the verse:

    G|----------------||
    D|--5----8--------||
    A|--3----6--------|| X1
    E|----------------||

    G|-----5--------------------------||
    D|-----3----2-----2---------------||
    A|--------------------------------|| X2
    E|-00-----0----0------------------||

    G|----------------||
    D|--5----8--------||
    A|--3----6--------|| X1
    E|----------------||

    G|-----5----------||
    D|-----3----2---2-||
    A|----------------|| X 4
    E|-00----0----0---||

    Now the fast ass bass fill. Same tecnique as before except the rythmn is slap, slap,
    hammer , pop
    Again takes a while to get the timing

    Chorus and verse is repeated again and then the interlude:
    First bit is a bend on the 3rd fret of the e, then a slide from 15 hitting the string
    six times on the way down, followed by tapping 16 on the d and 17 on the g
    s s s s s s s t t
    G|-----------------------17--||
    D|--------------------16-----|| For as long as it goes
    A|---------------------------||
    E|-/3\--15-\-\-\-\-3---------||

    Then it breaks into:
    s p h s h s s h s p h s h s
    G----------------5-7----------------------||
    D|----------------------------------------||
    A|--X--5-7-5-7-X------X--5-7-5-7--X-------||
    E|----------------------------------------||

    Sometimes it adds these power cords on the end:

    G|---------------||
    D|--6--7--8------||
    A|--4--5--6------||
    E|---------------||

    Then back into the verse but keep doin g the last bit till the vocals say 'hwa' 4 times
    then its just

    G|------5----||
    D|------3----||
    A|-----------||
    E|--00-------||

    till he finshes with

    G|-----5/--7------||
    D|-----3/--5------||
    A|----------------||
    E|--00------------||

    Enjoy playing!

    HOW DO I DO THE VERSE! He only slaps 1, 2, 3, 4 then does crazy dead notes with his left hand and I can't do it for my life and i'm getting EXTREMELY ANGRY.

    PLEASE HELP. :mad:

  4. it just takes a while to get the hang of it. Do what i said in the tab, the key is to get a good sounding mute off your slap then hammer on with your other three fingers and take them of as quick as you put them on! Just think of it as slap hammer pop hammer, slap hammer pop hammer, slap hammer pop hammer, etc.

    Dont get down bout it, once i figured it out i sat for hours till i got it!

    I still think the powertab version gets it perfect. And the main riff is hammered from 2-3 on the A then E string. Not pull-of from 3-2. ;)

    -Eric.

  6. Just got the tab mixed up, i dont indicate that its pulled, you can tell by listening to it its hammered.

    Its not bad man but theres a few things that need tweeking.

    The verse riff looks more like this:
    s h p s
    G---x-2-x-|
    D---x---x-|
    A---x---x-|
    E-X-x---x-|

    I also play the C and Eb chords going into the chorus as power chords. I'm not sure if Les does or not but it gives a fuller sound.

    If you listen closely the chorus line is more like this
    h p*sshp shp
    G|-----3-------------||
    D|-----3-----5---5---||
    A|-------------------||
    E|-01----003---03---||

    It definitely has an F to G feel in it.

    The * chord is a bit hard to hear sometimes. If you listen to the ending where they repeat the first half of that bar, you can clearly hear that thats what he's playing.

    The time before you go into the solo hit an Ab on the E string at the end.

    I play the solo like this:
    shsphsshsphs
    G|---2-----2--
    D|------------
    A|------------
    E|xxx-xxxxx-xx

    The hammer ons are muted clicks on about the 3rd fret. You can get some real speed doing this - much faster than the solo in the song.

    The trippy bit is
    s h h h s s s s s s h h h s s s s s
    G|---------17------------------------19---------------
    D|-----------16------------------------18-------------
    A|------------------------------------------------------
    E|0-4/\/\/\------x-x-x-x-x-0-4/\/\/\--------x-x-x-x-x-

    The repeated slaps are a percussive effect. Mute all the strings with your left hand and move your right hand from near the end of the fretboard towards the nut, slapping on the beat wherever your hand happens to be at that time.

    It then goes into
    shs phhh s s
    G|----575------
    D|--------7-----
    A|055------5-5-
    E|-------------- 8 times.

    At the end of the 4th, 6th and 8th play

    G|7-8-9
    D|7-8-9
    A|5-6-7
    E|-----

    Then back to the chorus, then

    G|-----3-
    D|-----3-
    A|-------
    E|-01----

    a few times then nail a C power chord

    G|5
    D|5
    A|3
    E|-

    and rejoice in the fact that you have just played laquerhead!
    :) :) :)

    This was the first primus song and one of the first slapped songs that I learnt. Once you get the tecnique going youre fine. I used to sit around watching TV or whatever with my bass unplugged and play the solo pattern over and over again really slowly. Then pick up the speed and soon you can do it faster than the song.

    This thing really doesnt like lots of spaces to seperate things out...

  11. Id beg to differ, i picked it out from the family values tour and im pretty sure i got most of it right. But hey with songs like this ya should always try to add a personal touch

    Its probably somewhere between the 2 I guess. Les always plays things very different live anyway so why can't we :)
