I was at Barnes and Noble, and was surprised by this…

Yes, there are still print magazines, and people who buy and read them. But what caught me off guard was that she’s a hometown homegirl…and while I was certainly aware that she had taken her career nationally, it was still a kick to see her on the cover of a ‘zine and getting recognition.

Just like Samantha Fish, she’s from Kansas City, and while I don’t know her directly, I’ve met her in passing, and she’s part of the blues community there with people I do know and have played with in the past. She and her siblings had a trio, Trampled Under Foot, who I saw live when I was back visiting and they’d show up at jams that I would attend/participate as well. Her brother, guitarist Nick Schnebelen(also a lefty)now has his own thing going, and sadly drummmer brother Kris died.

She’s fierce on vocals AND bass…

We did some fests with Trampled Under Foot, I loved that band and Danielle's voice. Her brother is an equally badass singer, one of the reasons I dug TUF was the two voices, its rare to have two such great singers in the same band.

She sounds awesome but what is going on with the guitar player in that first video? She seemed visibly frustrated by the wrong chords on multiple occasions for what is a 4 chord song with like 2 changes?

There’s much more to that song than just four chords…listen to the original with all the orchestration and backing vocals, then consider how sparse their version is. I guess Nick just got lost momentarily…here’s a different take where it’s all there:

I'm always impressed by bass players that can play and sing. Her vocals are soulfully amazing. I did notice she was a thumb bass player. I rarely sang in bands while using finger plucking but could manage somewhat by using a pick or only thumb. Maybe Macca could tell us, thanks for the videos...

I got to meet Danielle and take some lessons from her for a few days during a blues workshop last year. She plays bass with conviction, and her vocals absolutely slay, with or without a mic. Very intense personality, but she is also a naturally gifted and patient instructor.
