Prosteels Initial Impressions

yeah not the case with my passive lull too through a tube SVT2.....its very even bright enough to cut through the SVT heavy mids and sounds very even...I really like em......going to A/B them with the Fodera stainless and hard rockin steels.

I like the prosteels too, but if I had to pick a string company to do endorsement for, it would be DR hands down. Hi Beams and Lo-Rider SS are where it's at, my friend :)

Used Lo-Riders for 5 years, and before that it was Sunbeams.

If you want grind with clarity, the Prosteels got em beat hands-down. The Lo-Riders have great lowmids though.
I can post clips of both.

Hi Beams & Lo-Riders are great but NEONs failed on me something awful. Prosteels all the way for the price, durability, feel & tone. Cobalts get a slight edge for tone & feel but are double the price so Prosteels still win

Man, I must be getting the good DR batches! lol

I tend to play active basses only, I have DRs on my Ibanez CTB5 (EMG JX and BQC), Ibanez SRX3EX (with Bart NTMB-3), and Ibanez '93 MIJ SR800 (Bart P+J and 2-band pre). Out of GK amps, I tend to get a pretty sweet tone :)

I use a Line 6 Variax 5 string. The models were designed with D'Addario nickel strings. I don't care for them and used a variety of strings, my favorite being Dean Markley SR2000 strings...brightest, clangiest strings I've ever used.

I wanted to get closer to the original models tone, so I figured D'Addario would be the way to go. I tried the Pro Steels and rather like them. It's a different tone, but a good one.

I usually buy two sets, and when one gets dull, put on the new ones, and put the old ones in a container of isopropyl alcohol. I used to boil them but this works better. When the second goes dull, the originals go back on. I can go back and forth like that for nearly 2 years, keeping the zing and clang.

DR are the only strings I hate. I tried hibeams sunbeams neons the worst and fatbeams....they all sounded dead to me. the E string on the neons was like totally dead....again it could be because my SVT2 non pro is kinda very muddy and middy and has a really deep voiced tone....and the DRs just didnt want to cut through it.
when I used GK mbfusion I preferred to try to warm up the tone with nickels....but with the SVT as long as the E is pretty deep then all the strings are deep and the stainless help cut through and clear up the mid heavy amp.

It takes me about 2 weeks to get the initial "super zing" off mine, then from there I leave them on about 3 months. I might play at home 1 night a week, rehearse with the band 1 night a week and gig 1-2 times per week. I don't sweat much and I always wipe my strings down after playing.

I replaced the strings that originally came on my Yamaha BB. I switched to extra super-light gauge. These are nice and the price was pretty good, got them on sale on amazon.com. They are 0.035, 0.055, 0.075, 0.095.
Of course, these are brighter than the ones I had. I have passive pick-ups. I'm happy with the sound and feel of these strings.
