ProSteels: Oh Yeah!

So I threw some D'addario XL ProSteel's (105-50) on my L2000 just for giggles. I was expecting a clanky, ganky, zingy mess but boy, what a surprise! Full, fat and growl that would make a Warwick jealous. I really like the feel of them too! I am sure a lot of you guys know about this already but I just had to share

I also fell in love with a sunburst and maple Fen**r jazz while in getting new strings but I suppose this is the wrong forum for that particular brand Just need to convince work to pay me more........

I had a set on my L-1000. They do, indeed, sound GREAT on it. I took them off to try a set of Dunlop nickel wound. I'll put 'em back on if the nickel strings don't work out.

Pro Steels are great strings, but a bit sticky for my taste. All stainless strings (that I've tried) grab my fingertips and slow me down, some.

Before these I had on D'addario XL nickels in the same gauge. Found them OK but I think the set I had on had a bad E string as it was always kind of muffled and dull compared to the rest. They sure can't compare to the punch of the steel's though! They had more of that smooth middle of the road kind of sound. I haven't had the bass long enough to try any others but I don't think anything other than prosteels are going on from now on!

I actually like how "grippy" they are. I prefer to play over the bridge pickup and find that the better purchase actually helps when playing faster.

I have only ever used nickel Slinky's otherwise as I was always scared of steels being too bright. Glad I tried em because I'm getting the tone I wanted now

These are GREAT on my L2K trib. I hate dead strings but they still sound brilliant even after months.

I think they are the best inexpensive string out there. I'm using DR Fatbeams on my L2000 and DR Lowbeams on my SB-2 but that's because I got a good price on them. I've used the Pro steels on my Fenders and Musicman S.U.B. with great success. I find them very balanced sound wise and for feel. Their longevity is average. But at the price that they are, you can afford to change them. I boil mine once (getting a few more weeks out of them) then throw them out.
