ProTec Contego bass case?

My Hanewinckel came with a Protec gigbag, and one of the handles on the back above the shoulder straps broke on me. I've had the bass for a couple months now. The zippers have been fine so far.

Would Protec stand behind their product if somebody's zipper did break?

This post is regarding Protec Customer Service.

My Hanewinckel bass came with a Protec Deluxe Gig Bag. The handle above the shoulder straps broke on me, and I let Protec know about it. They responded saying I just needed to send them a couple pics (of the bag and of the broken handle) and my shipping address, and they'd send me a new one. The new bag won't have the Hanewinckel logo, but I should be getting a new bag soon.

I bought a Contego case for my Hanewinckel, and I like it so far. It's definitely more protective than the gig bag that came with my bass, but it doesn't seem as protective as other lightweight cases I've used in the past. Still, the Contego seems to have plenty of padding, and the sides are fairly sturdy. I also got 15% off the price from The Perfect Bass.

By the way, have any of you had issues with the little handle guy on the zippers popping off? Two of mine did that recently on the small front pouches.

My case is still brand new, but I would suggest you send an e-mail to PRO TEC to let them know about your issue. Maybe even include a couple pics. They might just offer to replace it.

I don't know about design changes, but perhaps I should clarify my answer to JimC: Yes the straps on the Contego can be used like the old fashioned single sling strap instead of as a backpack style...simply by only slinging a single strap over your shoulder, and ignoring the other one (just leave it dangling, or tie it to the case with the Contego's velcro hold-down).

Some of the back pack style straps have the top strap location so low that a single strap doesn't balance so well; photos of this one looked like it might work, and judging from the above reviews, it sounds like a great deal.

I don't think the LMK would fit in there...my AI Focus is about the same size as an LMII and it doesn't fit in the pocket. I think that my next bag may be an iGig just because of that factor. The Contego is a fantastic bag apart from that though.

Going to be ordering one today. Been using a Pro-Tech heavy duty gig bag for my Ovation Classical for many years and it's tough as nails so I highly recommend the Contego - sight unseen :eyebrow:

I love mine...have used it for touring for years, tough as nails and inexpensive! Great for putting under the bay on your bus...the case has a tough outer shell to protect your bass.
I would never fly with it.
I only I wished they made the front pocket square instead of oval? It would fit my Gig Book better.
For flying I recommend the SKB iseries... I've flown all over and my bass always arrives unscathed!
