I still think very highly of my Contego gig bags - I ended up with two. They are the most "hard case" like gig bags I have used. As I have tried many other gig bags in the last few years, I have a couple additional comments here:
* The Contego is fairly heavy compared to other gig bags.
* The Contego is probably far more protective than many other gig bags. (I don't care to test this theory.)
* I've had a couple zipper pulls break on one of my Contego gig bags. I replaced them with paracord zipper pulls - not a big deal, the zipper works just fine.
* These cases still look like new 12 years later - they have held up very well
Lately, I have been using an Access Stage 3 double bass bag. This is a discontinued bag, but it weights about as much as the Contego but holds two basses. It is probably almost as protective, but it weighs a TON with two basses in it. I also have a couple Music Area gig bags. They are lightweight and not as rigid as the Contego, but since they just go in the back seat of my Gladiator, they are sufficiently protective.
