PRS Basses Any Good?

I found a Grainger in Texas to play and whilst it was one of the 'better' set up basses in a shop...and this can be a notoriously variable quest, I would put it around par with the Metrolines, amongst others, I tried that summer. Ok but no wow.
I had to raise my budget to get that.

The first-gen 80s Bass IV was really good. A rare three-pickup instrument with a dummy coil in back for humbucking. They pop up used with some frequency.

I had one of the original bass IVs in the 90s, Gigged it and recorded an album with it. I had to sell it when times were tough a good few years ago - only when I sold it I realsied the serial numbet meant it was the second one they made! You could see the headstock decal had been applied in the wrong location and later resprayed and re-applied.

It sounded great - could get some good tones out of it:

I'm in the UK and sold it via ebay to someone in the USA. I'd be curious as to if they're on here somewhere?
