PRS jumping back into the bass market..

Understood. However, I have never really been a big PRS kinda guy. Nice stuff, to be sure.

I have worked with several guitarists over the years who had PRS, Strats and Les Paul's in their racks. When they would change from their PRS to say, their Les Paul's (for example) the difference was noticeable.

To my ears, the Les Paul sounded better.....IMO.....

GC Albany has a beat up 80's 3 pickup model priced over $1000 (including fingerprints). It sounded and played great but I can see where the 'overpriced' complaints always stemmed from. It's a very dated tone...a 90's, not quite Musicman type thing. Very high quality bass with a bland look and actually, a very capable, bright tone. Plus the "mystery" pickup. Not sure anyone will take notice this time around. Depends I price, I think.

They were not stylin' and they didn't sound good. Other than that, nothing.

Affordable to anyone in the PRS sphere of influence. People looking for cheap instruments shouldn't even be looking at PRS gear. Same with Fodera, Sadowsky, Alembic, etc. If you're a low budget cowboy, move on.

PRS is an expensive builder. When they announce they're making a bass, you should expect very high prices. For them to release a bass in the sub-$3k range is very affordable for their market.

I remember seeing the Doobie Bros in the late 80's and Tiran Porter was rockin the PRS basses. Sounded great!!

And my guitarist in my previous band used 2 types of guitars ONLY. PRS and Gibson-and he has some beauties!!! He one that was a Les Paul shape with what they called a "lemonburst" finish- that was arguably the most gorgeous instrument I've ever seen that up close and personal.

Heck, we already have PRS basses, they're called Spectors:D

PRS guitars have a tone that you either like or don't but their finishes, wood selections and workmanship are some of the best in the business. You could say the exact same thing about Spector basses. Funny thing is that most guitards don't even consider buying a Spector guitar, just like most bassists don't even consider buying a PRS bass. Maybe the two companies should merge then they'd have all the bases covered:smug:

The good news for us bass players is that Spector has figured a way to offer top quality basses at an affordable price (sure they have expensive stuff as well). PRS does this in their guitar world with the SE series, now if they did that for basses it would be a game changer.

+1 these look great, and the price is reasonable. I'm lucky enough to gig somewhat regularly in St. Louis with PRS's primary international sales/clinician, so will probably get a chance to try one of these out.

I like the spec's, the look, everything!

Again, it is all relative. Given the boutique, small batch nature of these basses, with fancy tops, etc., that price is actually right in line with other offerings.

That does not mean it is 'affordable' in an absolute sense:)
