PS3 - Help me decide

I can get a price dropped 60GB US model shipped for $475. I am close to pulling the trigger but I have never had a Playstation, not even the first one. I have a Wii currently. To me the XBOX 360 is a rip off with the additional cost of the HDDVD hardware and no built in wireless. What do you all think?

I had a PS2 and it was great, go ahead and shoot buddy!!!!!

Okay, listen to me right this second.

If you are planning on purchasing a PS3, GET IT RIGHT NOW.

Sony is pulling a real donkey maneuver here, by calling it a price drop on the PS3's when they are really weeding out all of the 60GB models. Once they sellout the 60's, they are forcing out an only 80GB model of it, and they are ruining the Emotion Chip inside of it, which will severely impact its reverse compatibility for PSone and PS2 games. I believe they will instead be making you download the software for the compatibility like 360's do.

There are many other cons about the new PS3's that are going to be the only things available soon, so I highly recommend getting the 60GB model currently cheaper now.

The loss of some things and the addition of the extra 20GB is not going to be worth it in the end, especially since the price will be going back up to $600.

If you do decide not to get the PS3 right now though, or just don't want to at all, keep in mind that by around Christmas, the newer PS3 should be back at $500.

There's a good point in that. It is a tough choice really, because the PS3 is a great next gen system, but the PS2 can still do a lot. It has nice graphics, you can buy a network adapter to get internet with it (or just buy the slimline which has a network adapter built in), etc...

Never buying another console. According to sony, 60 frames per second at 1080x768 (or 720 or whatever) is good...

PC's are the way to go. PS3 I saw on demo on HD in store, looked good, but there were some slow-down frames, far far too many for a machine that costs some £400 over here.

Put the money into a pc if you have a half decent one allready.

Yes that is very extreme. I have a 360 and I haver never had ONE problem with it. I know loads (about 9 or 10) people who have a 360 and not one of them has ever been defective. Besides, remember when the power supplies all broke on PS2's? Never happened on mine. All it takes is a few hundred faults and the whole world is in an uproar.

Come on man, PC's are great and I play games online for hours each night. But you can't tell me that sitting down on a couch and playing a console isn't fun!

Seeing you cant detect anything faster than 35-40 fps, i'd say its pretty good. Hell i play HL2 etc at about 30fps and cant complain.



A friend of mine has a PS3, and an HD-TV. And, well i was underwhelmed by it, big waste of money IMO.

Go PC. In reference to a graphics statement earlier, my comp with what's typically not that good of video classification, has the capability to go to 1440x 900. And I've got 600 gigs of harddrive, not a measly 60 or 80 =P.
