PSA: Strings on Amazon with “damaged packaging”

I used to order strings with “damaged packaging” on Amazon pretty frequently for bass and guitar. They would be maybe 60% the usual price, and the box would be kinda roughed up.

Last week, ordered a 3 pack of guitar strings. One of the packs was open, not missing any strings. Shortly after that, I got a pack of bass strings with a very obviously broken E.

They’re clearly not looking too closely at returns, so buyer beware.

There have been threads here and there regarding this.

One poster was bragging about the incredible price he got a set of flats for from the Amazon warehouse, only to discover what was inside the package was used rounds someone returned for a credit after swapping the new ones for the old.

I suppose I'll count myself lucky. I've grabbed a handful of bass sets, two 8 string guitar sets, and at least three 3 packs of regular guitar strings severely discounted before this nonsense.
