which one of these is the best for the money? I have seen more ipods here for sale than psp, but who knows???

psp vs ipod

PSP has many great features, you can play video games, watch movies, listen to music. Downside, it's not nearly as portable as an Ipod, has much less memory for music, I am not sure if it can be used as a removable hard drive.
Ipod is the ultimate music machine depending which one you get. For the price of a PSP, I am assuming you'd get a 30gig. Very portrable, huge memory, can play videos, I think the new generation ones have games already on them as well..
As stated above, it is really apples and oranges. Two very seperate things, depending on you're needs, you need to decide which you need/want more.
For me iPods are just more practical. I play games on my PC and my brother's consoles. I listen to my iPod when I work out, drive somewhere (until I can afford the iPod radio connector thing), do homework, etc. If you don't really play games, but would like to, then go with the PSP. If you don't really want to play many more games, but can find a use for listening to music while doing something else, then get an iPod.

Get an mp3 player of some kind, PSPs suck if you want them for listening to music. I bought one and a gig of memory for it, but I quickly got tired of changing out albums on it when I got sick of my library, so I sold it and bought an 8 gig Creative Zen Microtouch mp3 player.
I guess I should have been a bit more clear, my bad...I want to listen to music, watch videos/dvd...put my mp3/wave files on it, the only thing I heard about the ipod that concern me is that they have a hard drive like a computer would have, which I think if you bump it to hard while traveling working out etc... you could wreck it, I could be wrong
If you don't plan on playing video games, a PSP is really totally pointless. Also, if you don't plan on playing video games, there are several other mp3 players/devices other than an iPod.
If you're main concern as to getting an iPod is that it may be wrecked from bumping it, I wouldn't worry about that too much. There are tons of protective cases for them, and unless it falls from a crazy drop or gets slammed super hard, I suspect you'd be fine for a while.

IPod. I can't stand little videogames.
I'd rather have 10,000 songs in my pocket then get a headache trying to play videogames on a 3 inch screen.

You're right. Failure rates of hard drive based MP3 players are definitely higher than Flash based players.
ive seen an ipod being thrown 40 ft in the air and dropping, being jumped on, being dropepd out of a car, and it still survived. it took a car running it over to kill it.
also my nephew used to skate with his and he fell on it many times and it never broke. it got stolen today though.

The creative can support more video format and you don't have to have iTunes!
The only downside (to me) is that the iPod is available at 60GB.

That's not the point. Hard drives have moving parts in them. Flash drives do not. More stuff can go wrong with a hard drive.

The opint is that the flash plasyers are typically 4Gb, while the HD's are 30Gb or more.
An HD system is definatly more fragile (though not to the point of being a problem USUALLY), but flash just can't hold your whole music collection. There's no point in pointing out that flash is more secure if it can't hold your stuff.
If I was going to skating or something I'd go with a flash system, for day to day an HD system is better. (As it happens I've got an HD iPod, and I'm carefull with it, but not paranoid).

Well I have Zen and a PSP .
To clarify things.
A PSP can be used as a portable "hard drive" as you can store any file on it regardless if it can play them or not.
The games are good and very playable. (I also have a DS)
It is great for people like me that work and have a family waiting at home. I cant always sit and play video games as I have children. But I can easlily pull the PSP out and play some Madden etc while they are watching TV or playing with their toys. I also can play a bit when riding on the bus or on break etc. If it wasnt for the the PSP/DS I would never get a chance to play games.
It can play video formats of many types and the screen is really huge compared to other options. The PSP movie disks are not worth the money. At this point I just have a 512 mg card in it with 6 avatar cartoon clips(daughter loves the show) some pictures and a couple mp3's of my band playing. If they get bored can just put on a show for them if we are stuck in traffic and they just colored their 40th picture.
You can get up to 2 gigs now for memory and their are work arounds to allow non-sony format memory. But it involves some hacking.
Surfing the web works. You can do it pretty well but no keyboard so dont expect to do more than checking weather and news.
It will work for MP3's but it is a hassle.
