We've gone from talking about psychedelia to talking about Dave Matthews. Now that's a bummer trip!

How about Sun Ra? Not psychedelic, because he didn't use drugs, but definitely trippy! Most of his bassists were great, but probably the best were John Ore (also of T. Monk) and Ronnie Boykins. Ra himself also had a pretty heavy left hand when he felt the bassists were not coping.

Sun Ra is awesome ............no other jazzman can pull off an album like Atlantis............


Another is John Cale and to some extent Sterling Morrison of Velvet Underground...........awesome band and uber psychedelic.

Not a genre nazi, but Mountain was the embodiment of rock back in their day. I never heard anything by them that I would even remotely call psychedelic.

When I think Psychedelia, I think Saucer Full of Secrets, Piper at the Gates of Dawn, etc.

This is an awesome thread. My band pretty much describes themself as psychedelic, but I havn't gotten into much of the stuff. I've got lots of downloading to do...

Also, On Made In Japan, theres nothing trippier than Deep Purple.... Roger Glover holds strong under John Lord's relentless fuzz attack.

Agreed, but after Melon Collie , he just turned to mush. Started sounding way too mechanical on Adore and Machina.

phish can definitely be mad trippy. get any shows from '94. my friend recently bought a box of tapes from the salvation army in conconrd NH, over 60 tapes from the mid 80s-95. listened to em all on the way down to bonnaroo last month, fantastic stuff, but they really can get out there. find a good version of KUNG and tell me these guys arent trippy. the dead did suck a lot of the times, and also kicked a lot of ass too

Also , 77 with the dead, that was the egypt tour right? If so , then your right, that was some awesome ass music happening there. I personally love live in europe and live dead as well.

The 77 he speaks of was the Cornell University show and others in that run. Amazing stuff, especially the second set of 5-8-77 at Cornell.
