To my ear punch is a low mid bump at 250Hz, anywhere from 225Hz to 350Hz will get you close. Scooping the mids generally limits that frequency too much for my use.
On Peavey amps the "Punch" preset button was a 6db fairly narrow Q boost at 250Hz.
I was getting started with my EBS Bass IQ yesterday and before I got the filter and wah really going, I accidentally dialed in something that really made my bass thump real hard. That thump that feels like real tight and percussive like you are getting, well, punched. Of course I was looking for my envelope funky setting so I moved on. I need to mess with it and see if I can dial that in again because it was awesome.
My experience with Blender Mumbles has been very poor to say the least.
Sell it. Sell it. Sell it.
If you have to go to all the trouble of buying a preamp, swapping strings and pickups, changing playing style in order to make something POSSIBLY sound better, then the amp isn't for you.
If it doesn't sound good from the start, it never will.
