Punchy, dry, punky and cheap overdrive pedal

Hi friends,
I am desperate looking for a punchy, dry, punky and cheap overdrive pedal. I have treied many of them, but have not found anything so far: Ultimate Drive, OCD clones, Boss ODD-3. TC Electronic MojoMojo, Dark Matter.
I have ann SX Jazz BAss, and J&D P Bass, through a Fender Rumble 100.
I do not want a valvy, warm overdrive. Something more like a Steel Leather but with a smal amount of overdrive.
Any suggestions?
Thanks so much

Punchy AND clanky AND cheap? That's gonna be a tall order. I definitely wouldn't recommend the M85 for that (or anything for that matter). Punch and clank is what Darkglass excels at, but if that's out of your price range, a cheap Rat and a parallel blend might be your best bet. And new SS strings. You can't have clank without new strings.

It's too bad Peavey doesn't have one made off their old Mark amps or Century/Centurion. All in the same family of awesome clank(a little different than the F800\Festival or DFA1979 Peavey sound).

This is it by itself and I now use it in front of another tube-sounding pedal to get a little smoothness to go with the clank.

JohnK built a few of us them and they are by far able to be the clankiest pedals I've heard. The Rusty Box doesn't come too far behind imo, but none of these are cheap.

A used B3K might fit the bill for you. They can be had just over 100 bucks and have a very nice cutting high end as well.
Here is a B3K with that same bass:

I listed mine for a spell but eventually decided to keep it.

A full-size TC Spark booster might work. It doesn't compress too much and it's easy to dial in some clang. It might sound too valvy, depending on your definition, but it won't cover your sound in warm goo or anything like that.

Otherwise, just keep on twiddling knobs and buying cut-rate pedals and some of them will strike your fancy.

And the never-ending search goes on.

For cheap pedals, I have the Joyo American Sound and Orange Juice. Both are fun and do overdrive, but get a little fuzzy instead of staying punchy/clanky like a Darkglass B7K or even Tech 21 SansAmp BDDI.

what kind of strings are you using? Have you considered trying bright stainless steel strings? They might give you the grind you're looking for all on their own.
