Max from Pyramid, says that tapering of a 160 Pure Nickel can be requested if desired when ordering a string. Having tried a D'addario XL tapered and non tapered, I'd definetly want a tapered 160 ( I hear more clarity with a tapered D'addario XL160 than non tapered).
Max at Pyramid also confirmed that the Pure Nickels are higher tension than D'addario nickel plated rounds due to the higher density per same volume.
E.g
D'addario XLB160 tuned to B has 49lbf
The Pyramid Pure Nickel tuned to B has 154lbf

Just purchased a set of Pyramid Pure Nickels.

I was debating whether to go for a set of Sunbeams or these.

I feel the Pyramids will get thuddier than dead rounds. Time will tell...

To answer my own question in a seemingly deceased thread

Like flats, not deceased, just more thumpy.

Did you know that before flats, pure nickels were the strings installed on Fender basses?

15 months strong with the Pyramid nickels. I have tried the 7150s when they came in the 40-100 gauge. I kept them on my bass for a year and really liked them. The Pyramids are smoother, slightly lower tension and a little more articulate. After 15 months, they have a nice subtle thud and are a joy to play on my Jazz bass. Fantastic strings and a real alternative to flatwounds. I plan to keep them on.

Anyone in here who runs their nickel rounds "I never change them" dead? I've gotten used to that life with my flats and would love a nickel round that breaks in well. I've had my eye on the Pyramids for years but ordering an expensive custom 5-string set from across the pond without ever having played them before is giving me pause.

I might pick up some GHS BNs - how's the longevity of those?

I have a set of ancient DR Sunbeams on a Fender Jazz V that sound great to me.

I want to try the Fender pure nickels long term as well.

Finally was able to custom order Pyramid Pure Nickels again for my Dingwall. They will do round core on request if you custom order from what I understand, so I went with that this time.

Love the subtle thud and thumpiness, seems to counteract the immediacy of the multiscale in a pleasant way without fully committing to flats.

Pyramids die to a beautiful dark tone, but the darkest when dead I’ve found are the Gabriel Tenorios… though the two sets are close.

Tenorios are a little bit “rougher” feeling too. (I like the way they feel)

I put the GHS Balanced Nickels on my 5, it's like a brand new bass again. They were a little bright at first but are dulling out nicely. After a decade of exclusively playing flats it's jarring to go back.

I'm used to a smoother string now and prefer them that way, how would you describe the Pyramids' texture?

Pyramids are pretty “standard” as far as smoothness goes… not as slick as DR sunbeams, maybe closer to the feel of GHS Balanced Nickel or a little smoother than GHS boomers. (I haven’t compared in a long time though…)

Also you can custom order direct from pyramid if you are so inclined… just email with your request… I’ve ordered a couple custom sets of their Black Tapes with pure nickel (rather than steel) rounds as the base string via this method :
