Purple Squier, stock finish??

Also used on early '90s P-Plus Deluxe and J Plus.

So my first bass was a Squier VM Jazz and I loved it. I've always wanted to pick up a five string version as a backup and this one recently popped up on my local marketplace.

The seller says he bought it new from a shop with the purple finish... I can't find a speck of info about this colour and all my Googling has come up with nothing.

Anyone know if this was a rare special run or something? Anything I should be concerned with?

Much appreciated.

Hi, first time poster. Here’s a pic of a squire affinity I owned, but traded away when I bought a fender jazz standard of the same colour a couple of weeks later. It looks more blue from this light, but would look purplish when I moved it a certain way under the light. Midnight blue was the name of the colour that I found when doing research. I’m assuming it’s the original colour, the cream pickguard however, I believe was not.

Auto spell changed the proper squier spelling to the dreaded squire...sorry about that.

Dope. I likes me some purple

I owned one of those when they came out. The color was called galactic purple. Maybe it's the pics, but the OP bass doesn't quite look like that to me.

Actually, Galactic Purple was not a metallic color and it was a lighter hue. There was a Metallic Purple available as well, but it was darker than the jazz bass shown above. You can see examples of both colors here.

It's called Midnight Blue

It often looks purple, or probably more accurately an indigo or violet.

Here's a good shot to show the range of color it can appear as

I have an original Midnight Blue American Standard Jazz from 1992/3...this isn't the same color. The MB is definitely more blue and this definitely has enough red to be purple.

I only meant that I owned a Squier P-Bass Special that was in Galactic Purple. I realize there's passion about this topic so I don't want to trip anyone's wires.
