Purple Squier, stock finish??

So my first bass was a Squier VM Jazz and I loved it. I've always wanted to pick up a five string version as a backup and this one recently popped up on my local marketplace.

The seller says he bought it new from a shop with the purple finish... I can't find a speck of info about this colour and all my Googling has come up with nothing.

Anyone know if this was a rare special run or something? Anything I should be concerned with?

Much appreciated.

I have a vague recollection of seeing a purple one before.
I'd buy it regardless, though.

This is the closest I can find to the same finish. Squier Classic Vibe Jazz Master, it was a special run for Chicago Music Exchange. There's a good amount of info about those, nothing about the VM Jazz.

You would buy even without having any info about the finish? I really dig the colour... half of me thinks it's really cool that there's no info/pics of a similar instrument (one of a kind maybe) and the other half thinks it's kinda fishy. No idea what the scam/trick would be though, looks like it's in great shape.

I don't recall a stock purple finish on that model; it's likely either a refin, or a non-Squier body.

Either way, at a decent price, I'd snap it up if you like it. If it's a refin, it looks like a great job. The pickups look stock, the hardware doesn't look wrong. Those basses had nice necks, imo. The finish stands out in a good way.

This. And nobody is going to make any money trying to fake a Squier. If you like it, buy it.
I'm not a fan of counterfeit basses in general, but I have to admit it might be kinda cool to say the bass I was playing is a Squier knock-off. I think that story would have to end with "I know, right?"

In this case, though, I bet that is a real Squier with a factory color.

Sure, why not?
Original or refinish, it's what, a $350 bass?
It's not like a refinish is going to screw up thd future resale value if I ever decide to sell it. We're not talking about a vintage Fender here.
