Puzzled?

I have a 2011 MIM P-Bass and a 2012 MIA hand stained ash P-Bass. Both are stock, same strings, same tone settings on the bass and amp. This puzzling part is the MIM has more volume and tone than the MIA. Could this be a pickup issue or difference in wood types???

I would have to say pickups.

Ash should be loud and aggressive (according to wood lore).

Are both basses set-up exactly the same? Things like pick-up height could impact tone, volume, gain etc.

Both are set up the same. MIA bass has the Hi-Mass bridge, and the MIM has the standard bridge.

MIM basses generally have ceramic magnet pickups which can be pretty hot. As far as the tone, louder doesn't mean better, but it is of course subjective😯😶😇
