PYPB 44: ...like Tetris with boxes, wires and cables

I've been shifting pedals around on my board quite a bit recently, but I feel I've found a configuration to settle on for a while. My cabling is crap right now, but everything sounds good and the pedal order works really well for layering different effects.

I have a hard time keeping my board neat, because I move things around constantly. Some pedals don't even have velcro yet. Maybe I should just consign myself to the fate of always having a messy board at this point!

Looks like my collected rat’s nest of various cables isn’t gonna cut it for neatly connecting everything to the Signal Blender. What’s everyone’s favorite custom cable kit? George L? Lava?

Never tried the Lava's but I have about 15 George L's and while it's nice to have custom length, they are are pain in the ass imo. They're not very flexible so make sure you angle the plugs in the good direction when assembling them if you buy them. I had quite a few of them get intermittent problems with passing signal because the plug hadn't cut into the wire the correct way. Having a voltmeter handy to check the resistance to make sure the signal pass through well helped a lot to diagnose cables. I would personally go with EBS cables. You'd have to map out your signal chain to get the right length of each size they do offer but I think it's totally worth it. If you swap out pedals a lot, George L's will drive you mad as they become prone to cutting out when you play with the plug... in my experience.. Try sorting noise problems or your (card)board :roflmao: when new problems appear as you unplug and re plug your pedals. :rollno:

I had a lot of issues with George Ls as well. I prefer the Ebs flats. When they start to fail (maybe 1 a year) I just toss them and move on. Way too many times i had some weird noise gremlins and it was always a George L.

Make sure you get the correct diameter wire for the various jacks out there. The SP400 in particular is nice and compact.

I like Mogami W2319. Most sites recommend the next gauge down (2315 maybe?) but the 2319 feels more secure

I bought a whole whack of em plus cable from them (west coast). They have switcher kits that come with a lot of plugs and a goodly amount of cable…

buy more than you think you need - so you can add pedals later lol!

Heck yeah…he also makes a great video tutorial for beginners. Watching and copying those vids was my first foray into using a soldering iron. My janky cables have mostly held up too!!! And when they break, I can fix them. I have brought a handful of seemingly dead cables back to life.

Ended up kicking the Pitch Fork off when I got a good deal on the Fluorescence. Swirly synth pad lushness.

It’s been a while, but after many months of revolving door pedal GAS buying and selling, here we are. The pink Vaderin HP-X harmonic percolator is in the Bloop loop and drives the Rusty Box. Really makes it sizzle. The green HP is also Vaderin. I didn’t really need it per se, but I got trigger happy because of the artwork; Big Black’s Songs about F(un with guitars and drum machines)ing is one of my all time favorite records. It ended up stacking very nicely with the RudeTech fuzz, which is versatile as heck, all hail the tone bypass! The Pitch Fork gets used on our one nominally “pretty” song, in dual mode 1up/1down, with the fuzz kicked on for the heavy part of the pretty song. Man I dig that HP tone….View attachment 4397849[/QUOTE

Latest version on my 2nd big board. The Åsgard will give way to the Bluebeard and the Subt might go back on the other board with most of its IE brethren in favor of an Octabvre MkIII. I love this setup, so many options with stacking fuzz and dirt and the drive from the Moog LPF with the SLO is heavenly imo. The Big Spider might be replaced by some sort of modulation like a Twin Peaks or a Feber at some point too.

Soon to be a board (wait on cable), but this is one synth channel I really like: (Robot factory) loop 1 sansamp loop 2 chunk os on octave boss fz-2 moog murf (Robot Factory custom on-board tap tempo) with copilotfx broadcast on the lfo cv. Everything goes through a DBX 160A. I have more distortion, delay, another filter, and utility pedals to add. This is fun though.
