Pyramid Strings: Official Thread

Hello all!

I've noticed some thread regarding Pyramid Strings and decided to put on an "Official Thread" in order to incorporate all the info's and questions someone might have regarding those strings.

I'm currently using mostly:

- the Nickel Plated

PYRAMID maximum performance strings - Bass, Nickel Plated Steel, Solo, tiefe Basstöne

and

- The Flatwounds

PYRAMID maximum performance strings - Bass, Chrome Nickel Flat Wound, PYRAMID Gold, PYRAMID Custom-Shop, Solo, tiefe Basstöne

I've very satisfied with them. Great quality, long term clarity and stability!

I have Pyramid flats on my Fender Jazz. I will never take them off. The best sound is just using the neck pickup.

i dint own one, but strung a flatwound set to my customer Squier Vintage Modified Telecaster Bass Special , great upright-ish tone with only neck pup engage.

Pyramid flats are currently on two of my basses, I really like them. Based on my experience with the flats I have been thinking of trying the Nickle-plated rounds but haven't been able to find any feedback from players that use them. Can you give me some idea of the tension of the Nickle-plated strings? If you use a five-string set how is the B string? Also would love your impression of the feel of the windings, do they feel smooth or rough? I love the feel of the windings on TI jazz rounds but the string tension drives me nuts so I can't use them. Pyramid is the first company I have had make custom strings for me and I was very happy with the ordering process and results. I own a medium scale five-string bass that has been difficult to find strings for that actually fit properly, particularly the B string and am thinking about having Max make me a custom set of Nickel-Plated Steel strings for this bass. If I like them I may start using them on my other basses that have roundwounds on them.

I have used their stainless steel strings on different instruments several times and find them to be of excellent quality, and particularly durable. They have a singing quality reminiscent of Rotosound strings, in my opinion. In addition, they can be purchased individually in some online stores, which is very convenient.

I have not used anything other than the long and short scale gold flats.

By far my favorite strings for fretted.

Since it hasn't been said, yet, I'll say the obvious: Pyramid Gold flat wound short scale bass strings are the strings that German Hofner basses are fitted with. The classic McCartney sound is from his Hofner 500/1 and Pyramid Gold flat wounds.

I initially put Pyramid ss flats on my '67 Guild Starfire and thought they were great - smooth and warm; then I found some nos 70's Maxima flats and found they play like butter and are pretty ultimate vintage tone. I put the Pyramids on my SG bass and they are quite happy there.

I received the Pyramid flats and they went straight on the Hofner.

Instant old school vibe, more so from the E string. I’m hoping the others will sound less bright with time but overall, it does now have that vintage sound I was looking for.
