Pyramid Strings: Official Thread

I have Pyramid Gold flatwounds on two basses, a Hofner Ignition beatle bass and my main bass, a '75 Fender P. Super smooth string surfaces and old school tone even when new, just the way I like it. The tension is firm but yet with some flexibility. Easy to intonate at least on the Fender, with the Hofner it took a lot of work to get it to play in tune all over the neck- it isn't perfect, but good enough.
Anyone know if Macca used Pyramid Golds on his Ric? I tried a set on my 4004, they sound fantastic! A bit of old school thump with a singing musical quality, excellent pitch definition.
So then I put a set on my Ovation ABG, prefer them over the previous Labella LTF that were on it. My new favorite string!

anyone ever tried the pyramid stainless steel roundwound ones? I am looking for something similar to the D'addario Prosteels. I need an extra long scale length for thru-body fitting, and a 110 for the E/drop-D string, and it seems like the Pyramid ones are the only ones I can still find in this length and gauge...
I don't know much about Pyramid strings, but something you should know as another alternative...
DR's "long scale" is 37.75" in winding length (ball end to taper), which is almost as long as D'Addario's "super long scale" (38" winding). The SS Lo-Riders (hex core) do come in .110, which can be ordered as a single.

yep I know, I had tried a lot of strings a few years ago including the DR lo-riders, Ken Smith and La Bella. The Prosteels were easily my favourites, with La Bella seconds, the other ones didn't do much for me... and it would seem both the Prosteels and La Bella aren't being made anymore
Yes, very good strings. Solid construction and good longevity. German quality. Read my post #8.

Maybe I'll give the Pyramids a try since they can be purchased individually. I use 45 65 85 110 gauges and extra long scale, which is never found together in a set in any brand. True about the D'addarios... Guess I'll ask them. It's just that I couldn't find them as singles anywhere anymore, also not on their site. La Bella not sure, the old order email I have doesn't specify it, but I think they were the hard rockin steel yeah.

I'm not sure if he did or not. I know he played his Rick for quite a while with the original factory Maxima Flats (which you can duplicate with a set of Optima RB's - for "Rickenbacker Bass" - if you want). I have those on my '01 4003. And, there are pictures of his Rick with Roto TruBass 88 Tape wounds. I have those on my MIK Rogue VB-100 violin bass - very nice... But, Pyramids? I couldn't say. I know that they're popular with other Rick players, though...
Suggest you email Max at Pyramid ([email protected]) and let him know you have concerns about the strings fitting properly. Before placing the order ask him what kind of measurements you can take of the instrument to make sure they will fit. I don't think they charged me for custom string lengths and I also had adjustments made to the length of the silks at the the bridge. Worth taking a few extra moments so you get what you want and need.
Good to know, thanks! I am fairly sure it's all good already, I wound up on a german site that lets you order single strings as I was searching by length and gauge, and they popped up with the extra long scale filter, but I will double check with them.
What I would rather like to know is how close to other brands they do sound/feel, if people have some comparison points

Recently saw Frazy Ford, her amazing bass player Darren Parris recommended Pyramids.
I never thought I would pull my Labella 1954s (I even made a special neck for them) but I did.
Had to switch the nut but these have huge mojo. Wow!
BTW. Great show. Frazy and her band were great. Darren is the real deal, excellent player, sublime musical choices.

Flats?
I forgot to mention mine are the flats.
Mine cost a fortune coming in from Germany (exchange rate, shipping & duty) but no regrets. I've had TI flats, the heavy Labellas (which I love), Chromes, etc. But these are the best sounding (for me).
Edit: I guess I need another bass for my old Labellas...! Different mojo and the smoothest .

I wonder if you mean flex steels? Pro steels are still up and running. And I agree with the hard rocking steels from labella. They are good strings that should have been allowed to stick around. Funny thing though is that they have a similar tone as Ken Smith Rockmasters at least to my ears. I'm playing a set of hard rocking steels and I'm thinking that if I want to keep the vibe I'll have to look for Rockmasters if I don't see another pack of hrs laying around the internet. But I definitely notice more mid content on hard rocking steels as well as more flex than on pro steels however I can see how someone would draw the comparison of those hrs to flex steels because reviews have generally said good flexibility and string mids. I know this whole thing is way off topic but yeah... Definitely would be interesting to get some super alloy ti strings and see what they are all about.
