I will have a P 50 bass built and I have the idea to have 2 PU's
my main Q is: where would you put 1the 2nd / alternative PU ?
my reasons for 2 PU's:
more sound flexibility, by having more or less 3 sounds
- the original PU position with the single coil sound, which I like very much.
- the alt. PU position, with also a nice single coil sound
- both of them parallel for hum cancel when/where necessary with the typical parallel / Jazz bass sound
I like the idea of having the 2 in about a 1,2 inch (3 cm) distance
either towards the bridge or towards the neck. Or right at the neck, as the Tele guitars have it, for a very profound low end. Sounds too extreme?
The luthier and me also discussed the variant of just a dummy coil - on/off-switchable,
then with just the orig. PU position.
Thank you for your thoughts on this!
(has anybody seen/played a bass like that?)
